iPhone 5 Illustration, vector PDF

iPhone5-illustrationWhen I’m working on a project and need some kind of image or graphic, I rarely can find an acceptible specimen to work with. I search every dark corner of the web and my own libraries for something workable, but it always ends in me doing my own illustration of the subject matter. Usually I spend less time doing an illustration than the time I spent searching. Here’s another one of those items that I needed today – an iPhone 5.

It’s all vector art created in Adobe Illustrator. The art is a PDF but fully editable in Illustrator. Feel free to download and abuse it any way you see fit.
Please let me know if it is to be used in any marketing or advertising materials.
Enjoy.

Facebook app update for iPhone/iPad

For anyone having trouble getting the new Facebook app update to run on an iPad or iPhone, I’ll provide the steps I took to get mine up and running on both devices before I explain what happened. Here’s the deal:
1. Go to your Facebook Account settings in Safari or log in from a desktop browser.
2. Account > Security > Login Approvals (where it says ‘approval is required when logging in from an unrecognized device)
3. Uncheck this setting and save.
You should now be able to login using the new app on either device. If you don’t care about this security setting, leave it alone and you shouldn’t have any more problems until the next time the Facebook developers make a bunch of changes and don’t warn us about the bugs.
If you are the least bit paranoid about your identity and you want the Login Approvals active so that any unrecognized device requires a code, which is a good idea, then do this:
4. Go back into Safari > Facebook > Account > Security > Login Approvals
5. Check the box at the top to activate and save.
6. A little window should pop up for entering a Confirmation Code….
You should get a Confirmation Code via text message for the login approvals, enter it in the window and you’re good to go.
Worked for me on all my devices.

Now, here’s what happened. Continue reading

2do: another iPhone app

When I first purchased my iPhone, I was a week away from travelling to Bulgaria. Long flights are a bitch for a guy with A.D.D, and I always stress out about bringing enough stuff to keep my little brain busy while I’m in the air. I found that this time I could have taken my iPhone, camera and a sketchbook, and wouldn’t have needed to lug the other 300 pounds of crap along that I never used. In fact, it was the iPhone that kept me entertained 50% of the time. Most of that time was spent scrounging the outer reaches of the App Store wasteland looking for that one little productivity app which I hoped would be the solution to my organization and task-based problems.

Three weeks had passed, I was back from the trip and after countless hours of searching, I never did find The One. In fact, nearly a year later I was still searching and downloading, trying and testing, and failing. My browsing for this one particular White Whale had decreased to a bi-weekly and then monthly affair, but I continued to be disappointed.

Then after downloading and trying about 30 different list, task, and to-do type apps with no success, I stumbled upon “2do”. It was too good to be true!

“2do” has almost everything I was looking for in an organization/productivity app. It has customizable Calendars so you can organize your projects, tasks and checklists by type (personal, work, home improvement, or whatever), and they can be named, color coded, and you can add as many as you need, but in the paid version only. There is a free ‘lite’ version but you are limited to 3 calendars and other options are also limited.

Features that really made me do a little happy dance are the options you can utilize within the calendars. For example, Notes are my most frquently used because I can jot down the details of a project so I don’t forget. Another is an option to add a photo for reference. You can also schedule reminders and have it send an email to you, or an alarm, an instant message, and so on. You can set your Task up as a Task, a Checklist, or a Project, where you can actually group a bunch of tasks and checklists within it.

The list goes on and on. I was even happy with the Lite version until I found myself with the need for several Calendars to keep my insane list of things to do better organized. I also needed the Sync functionality so I don’t have to worry about losing my data. I can simply Sync everything to my desktop Mac and no worries!

If you have so many things to do that you need software to help you get your shit together, then I would recommend that you check out “2do”. I think you’ll sleep better if you do!

iLoader app for iPhone

Have you ever had a bunch of photos you wanted to post to Facebook on your iPhone only to get absolutely frustrated going about it one at a time through Facebook itself? It can be quite a pain in the ass. I went searching through the app store and finally found an app that does it all in one stroke, and the app is iLoader.

iLoader by Tektrify is an iPhone app for batch uploading photos and videos to Facebook. In addition to allowing you to select several images at once to upload, it also gives you the option to write captions on each image. When you’re ready to go, you can also choose to post with a comment and actually select any one of your albums to upload to. It sure makes life easier for people like me who don’t want their photos automatically going into the ‘mobile uploads’ album.

I always get excited when I find something that works well and makes my life easier. iLoader is one one of those things. If you have been looking for a way to batch upload photos to your Facebook page, I would definetely recommend checking out iLoader by Tektrify. You can also find it in Apple’s app store, just search for iLoader, and it’s cheap.

Project 365

Just recently I came across another neat little app for the iPhone that I think is worth sharing. The app is called “Project 365″. It’s basically a calendar that allows you to add a photo and comments for each day.
It doesn’t sound like much based on my simplified description, but it really is a cool way to log what you do every day and be able to look back later and see what you did. Visit their website for a better description and details (http://content.photojojo.com/tutorials/project-365-take-a-photo-a-day/).
One of their suggested uses is mainly for photographers and a way to practice and develop your style. I use it to track what I’ve done all year. I couldn’t tell you what I did or what I was working on two days ago and Project 360 has helped me see just how productive I have been. I’m always busy with work or one of my many projects but I still feel lazy. After a couple weeks of tracking my days with this app, I realized just how much I actually do and couldn’t believe how many projects I had worked on in that time. Now I don’t feel so bad about taking a day off!
It’s a good learning tool for new photographers and it’s great for a visual diary of your past. I would recommend checking it out if you’re like me and have trouble remembering yesterday.

New WordPress iPhone app

before I started my last post this evening, I noticed a new WordPress app for iPhone notification as I launched WP. I love new apps and updates, so I downloaded it right away. all excited about seeing the update in action, I set it up and wrote an entire entry in my blog. then came the disappointment.
After my post was finished, I went to save a draft so I could go back and attach a photo. I received a barrage of error messages about my incorrect username and password, plus a host of communication error messages to top it off. I tried several times and even went back and checked my username and password before several more attempts, all with the same horrifying results. The last resort was to start over, checking my old app for consistency, and setting up a second blog account. Same results.

Finally, I had to copy my post from the new app and paste into the old app, which is configured identically, and had no trouble at all saving and publishing my post.

Is the new app just a problem for me or is everyone experiencing the same frustrating problems? I’d really like to know. Send me your comments and/or solutions.
